Experience L’Aquarium de Barcelona‘s marine wonders with family and friends. Discover thousands of species from fish to penguins!
First Impressions
My first impression of the aquarium was that it was a bit hard to find. There wasn’t any parking available on the site, and the nearest parking area was at the Barcelona mall which was around 2 minutes away by foot. However, once we found the entrance, the queue wasn’t long since the line for those who had purchased their tickets online was separated from the line of those who were still about to buy their tickets.

Once we arrived at the place, I was surprised by how wide and empty the exterior of the building was since there was nothing but a wide space with a series of concrete steps going to the main entrance.
However, the overall atmosphere was great since everyone was disciplined and followed every instruction given to us.
The Exhibits
As someone who had never been to an aquarium before, I didn’t have any particular expectations about the exhibits. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and beauty of the aquatic species that were available there. One of my favorite exhibits was the penguin exhibit. The penguins were very active and entertaining as they swam around and did tricks that impressed the onlookers.
In addition to the penguins, there were also exhibits featuring a wide variety of fish, sea turtles, and even sharks. The aquarium’s Oceanarium was particularly impressive as it was home to a large variety of marine species, including rays, groupers, and moray eels.
While we were exploring the L’aquarium de Barcelona, we had the opportunity to witness a fascinating and unique event. As we were walking through the oceanarium, we noticed a group of divers swimming among the sharks and other marine species. It was an incredible sight to see, and we couldn’t help but stop and watch in awe.
Three of the divers were holding a large tarpaulin with something written on it in what we assumed was either Catalan or Spanish. Unfortunately, we couldn’t understand what was written on it, but it only added to the mystery and intrigue of the experience. A woman instructed everyone aside from the media to move to the back so that the media could get a better view of the exhibit while holding their cameras.
It was thrilling to witness this event up close and personal, and it was a reminder of the important work that goes on behind the scenes at aquariums like L’aquarium de Barcelona.
Accessibility and Cleanliness
L’aquarium de Barcelona is well-maintained and clean. During my visit, I didn’t see anything that violated any hygiene protocols. The viewing experience went smoothly, and everything was in great condition. However, the accessibility was a bit tricky. It wasn’t as easy as we thought to find the place since we got lost and didn’t find it right away due to the complicated route going there. Perhaps the aquarium could improve their signage or provide more detailed directions on their website to make it easier for visitors to find their way.
Recommendation
Overall, I would definitely recommend a visit to L’Aquarium de Barcelona, especially for families with children. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and learn something new while having fun. The aquarium is also conveniently located near other attractions in Port Vell, making it easy to include in your itinerary if you’re planning a day out.
Conclusion
L’aquarium de Barcelona is a great destination for a fun and educational outing. From the active penguins to the various marine species on display, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Despite the lack of parking options and tricky accessibility, the well-maintained facilities and engaging atmosphere make for a worthwhile experience. So why not plan a visit to L’aquarium de Barcelona and see the wonders of the sea up close?
